Program Overview

Phase One: Pre-Clinical

The first phase of the program, the pre-clinical phase, is made up of classroom lecture, discussion, videos, and projects, seven hours of HIV/AIDS education and certification, CPR/First Aid education and certification. Successful completion of all student work, as well as written and practical exams, will allow a student to move into the clinical experience phase of their training.

Phase Two: Skills Labs

The second section of the program, skills lab, prepares students in a simulated lab environment. There will be a minimum of 24 hours of clinical lab skill practice before taking the skills exam, which simulates the NNAAP examination.

Phase Three: Clinical Experience

The clinical experience phase of the program consists of 40 hours of clinical experience at a healthcare facility working with patients or residents.  During this phase of the program, students will be required to meet a list of clinical objectives for course completion.  Students will be supervised by a Columbia Safety Training Center State approved Licensed Nurse while at the clinical facility.

Entrance Requirements

To be accepted into the program, applicants must:

*Go to http://www.wsp.wa.gov/crime/crimhist.htm to request a Criminal History report. Print your results. The cost is $12.00 (price may vary) payable  online (requires a credit card).

A criminal history may not bar you from obtaining a State credential, however, failure to report a criminal history may result in an extra cost to you and the application may be delayed or denied.

Columbia Safety is not responsible for reimbursement or a refund of tuition due to a denied background check or for a “pending” background check restricting the student from participating in clinical internships or receiving licensure from the Washington State Department of Health.

*Prerequisites can be taken as part of the program with our “All Inclusive” package.

Courses needed: American Heart Association BLS CPR, American Heart Association Heartsaver First-Aid, and 7-HR HIV/Aids Certification. ($200 bundle if purchased separately from NAC program)

MMR – 2 required or titer, Vericella – proof of vaccination/chicken pox or titer, Tdap – 1 required, Hepatitis B – proof of series being started, TB – required yearly, Flu Shot – required yearly (during flu season)

Columbia Safety Training Center (CSTC) does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability or the use of a trained guide dog or service animal by a person with a disability.
